Should NOT be confused with Lt Col Donald Nichols, USAF (retired 1979), a systems analyst at AFIT. External sources do not document direct UAP involvement, but the subject's extensive military intelligence and special operations background during the Cold War era aligns with the archive's historical scope.

Before the conflict, he warned superiors of North Korean invasion plans; during the war, he operated covert intelligence networks that broke enemy codes and gathered critical aeronautical intelligence, including specifications from a captured MiG-15 fighter retrieved in a 1951 raid. He was awarded the Silver Star and Distinguished Service Cross for these operations. He experienced forced psychiatric hospitalization in 1957 following his relief of command, and later faced criminal charges, dying in a psychiatric hospital in Alabama in 1992.
