The FBI Central Records Complex is a records management and storage facility operated by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, located at 200 Constitution Drive in Frederick County, Winchester, Virginia, approximately 90 minutes from Washington, D.C. Opened in March 2020, it is a 256,000 square-foot facility designed to centralize and manage more than 2 billion pages of archived records previously distributed across the FBI's 56 field offices and other sites. The complex employs approximately 500 staff and is the first NARA-certified facility using automated storage and retrieval technology (robotic systems). The Records Information Dissemination Section (RIDS), located within the complex, is responsible for processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act requests and maintains more than 7,000 documents in an electronic library called The Vault. The Records Management Division itself was re-commissioned in February 2002.
